Performing on Stage with Live Mode

Live Mode is a special mode that presents songs and setlists in a way that is easy to use during live performances. It provides a clean, distraction-free interface optimized for quick navigation and presentation of song content to occupy screen space efficiently.

How to Enter Live Mode

  • From a Song: Open a song, tap the menu button, and select 'Go Live'.
  • From a Setlist: Open a setlist, tap the menu button, and select 'Go Live'.
tip

Starting from a Setlist allows you to switch between all songs in that setlist without leaving Live Mode.

When in a setlist, you can move between songs:

  • Swipe: Swipe left for the next song, right for the previous.
  • Previous/Next Buttons: Tap the semi-transparent button on the right for the next song and the button on the left for the previous song.
  • Header: Tap the song name in the header to jump to any song in the setlist.

If you prefer not to switch songs with a swipe, open Other settings and disable Swipe to change songs. In that case, only the left and right buttons will switch songs.

When swipe navigation is enabled, you can also adjust Song swipe sensitivity there. Low requires a more deliberate swipe, while High reacts faster.

Songs, Breaks, and Notes

Setlist may contain songs, breaks, and notes. In Live Mode they are presented in the same order as in the setlist.

When a song is activated, its content (e.g., Lyrics & Chords, PDF, etc.) is displayed full-screen for easy reading along with various tools like transposition, capo, Bluetooth/MIDI remote control and so on.

When a break is activated, Live Mode displays its name, description, and a countdown timer. The countdown shows either the remaining duration or the time until the target end time, depending on how the break was configured.

When notes are activated, Live Mode displays the notes content, allowing you to read important reminders, cues, or announcements during your performance.

Switching Sections in a Song

When viewing a song in Live Mode, you can switch between its different sections (e.g., Lyrics & Chords, PDF, etc.) to present the desired content.

  1. Open Live Mode for a song or setlist.
  2. Tap on the menu button (top right corner)
  3. Tap on 'Present Another Section' and select the desired section from the list.

Transposing Chords

If the song contains chords, you can easily transpose them up or down to suit your vocal range or instrument tuning.

  1. Open Live Mode for a song or setlist.
  2. Tap on the menu button (top right corner).
  3. Tap on 'Transpose' and select the desired transposition option.

If you use the two-finger swipe up/down gesture for transposition, you can adjust Transpose swipe sensitivity in Other settings. Low requires a more deliberate gesture, while High reacts faster.

Change Key

If you want to change the key of the song instead of just transposing chords, you can do that as well.

  1. Open Live Mode for a song or setlist.
  2. Tap on the menu button (top right corner).
  3. Tap on 'Change Key' and select the desired key.

Capo

If you're using a capo on your guitar, you can set the capo position in Live Mode to adjust the chord display accordingly. You can either specify position or desired key and Bandfix will calculate everything for you.

  1. Open Live Mode for a song or setlist.
  2. Tap on the menu button (top right corner).
  3. Tap on 'Capo' and choose the desired capo position or key

Content Fit Mode

You can adjust how the content fits on the screen in Live Mode. There are two modes available:

  1. Open Live Mode for a song or setlist.
  2. Tap on the menu button (top right corner).
  3. Tap on 'Change Content Fit Mode' and select one of the following options:
  • Fit Screen: Scales the content to fit the entire screen. This will not require both horizontal and vertical, however the content may be too small if the section is too big. This mode is useful for smaller sections or bigger screens. You can also use columns to optimize space usage (see below).
  • Fit Horizontally: Scales the content to fit the screen width. This will ensure that all text is visible without horizontal scrolling, but may require vertical scrolling.

Lyrics & Chords Mode

If the song contains a Lyrics & Chords section, you can toggle between displaying both lyrics and chords or only lyrics or only chords for a cleaner view.

  1. Open Live Mode for a song or setlist.
  2. Tap on the menu button (top right corner).
  3. Tap on 'Lyrics & Chords Mode' and select one of the following options:
  • Lyrics & Chords: Displays both lyrics and chords.
  • Only Lyrics: Displays only the lyrics, hiding the chords.
  • Only Chords: Displays only the chords, hiding the lyrics.
  • Only Chords (no whitespaces): Displays only the chords, removing all whitespace between them that were necessary to place them above lyrics, but isn't useful without the lyrics.

Columns

If the song contains a Lyrics & Chords section, you can enable columns to optimize screen space usage.

  1. Open Live Mode for a song or setlist.
  2. Tap on the menu button (top right corner).
  3. Tap on 'Columns' to select the desired number of columns.

Audio Playback

At the bottom left corner of the screen you'll find audio playback controls. If your song has sections with audio tracks, you can select an audio track there and control its playback either manually or using Bluetooth or MIDI. You can also adjust key and playback speed of the audio track which is useful for practice, backing tracks playing or learning song parts.

Metronome

You can enable the metronome to help you keep time during your performance.

  1. Open Live Mode for a song or setlist.
  2. Tap on the menu button (top right corner).
  3. Tap on 'Start/Stop metronome' to trigger the metronome.

There is also a quick access button for metronome at the bottom right of the screen.

Autoscroll

You can enable autoscroll to automatically scroll the content vertically at a steady pace.

  1. Open Live Mode for a song or setlist.
  2. Tap on the menu button (top right corner).
  3. Tap on 'Autoscroll' to enable it.
  4. Set scroll duration (how long it takes to scroll from top to bottom), pre-roll time (delay before scrolling starts), and whether autoscroll should trigger audio track and metronome playback.
  5. Tap the yellow scrolling finger button at the bottom right of your screen to start or stop autoscroll.

Song Performance Information

You can see information such as tempo, key, and time signature at the bottom right corner of the screen.

Bluetooth Remote Control

You can use Bluetooth pedal (e.g., AirTurn, PageFlip) to navigate between songs and control almost anything that happens in Live Mode. Learn more about how to Remote Control Live Mode using Bluetooth Pedal.

MIDI Remote Control

You can use MIDI controller to navigate between songs and control almost anything that happens in Live Mode. Also, you may configure Bandfix to send MIDI messages on different actions and events. Learn more about how to Remote Control Live Mode using MIDI Controller.

Changes Made in Live Mode

All the changes you make in Live Mode are only visible to you and only affect songs when they are open in Live Mode. For example, if you transposed the chords 2 steps up, then only the Live Mode view of that song will reflect the change. Also no other band members will see it these changes.

Syncing Changes Across Your Devices

Some of the changes you make in Live Mode might make sense to be synced across all your devices, for example, transposition or capo position. Some of them not, for example, on iPad you may want to have 2-3 columns, but on iPhone you might prefer a single column layout.

You can configure which changes to sync across your devices:

  1. Open Live Mode for a song or setlist.
  2. Tap on the menu button (top right corner).
  3. Tap on 'Sync Preferences'.
  4. Select which changes you want to sync across your devices.

Vertical Hotspots

In Live Mode, you can use vertical hotspots on the top and bottom of the screen to quickly scroll up or down the content. This is especially useful when you need to navigate through long sections without using physical buttons or gestures.

To enable vertical hotspots:

  1. Open Live Mode for a song or setlist.
  2. Tap on the menu button (top right corner).
  3. Tap on 'Other settings' to enable the feature.
  4. Enable 'User vertical scroll hotspots'

Quick Actions Menu

At the bottom right of the screen you'll see buttons for quick access to common actions like autoscroll, Bluetooth pedal control, metronome, increase decrease text size (A+/A-) and more.

Full Page Scroll

When using Auto-scroll or remote control (Bluetooth pedal or MIDI) and want to scroll down or up (to the next or previous page), Bandfix scrolls the content leaving part of the previous page visible. This is useful to avoid losing context when scrolling when part of it cropped out by the screen.

If you prefer to scroll full pages instead, you can enable this option:

  1. Open Live Mode for a song or setlist.
  2. Tap on the menu button (top right corner).
  3. Tap on 'Other settings' to enable the feature.
  4. Enable 'Full page scroll'

Flow

For Lyrics & Chords sections, you can change the flow (rearrange its parts) just for Live.

  1. Open Live Mode for a song or setlist.
  2. Tap on the menu button (top right corner).
  3. Tap on 'Flow' and select the desired flow from the list.
